Today is the start of a new journey for Ben and I. Prior to marriage we were both very active and healthy individuals. We were runners, and ate healthy. Our first time laying eyes on each other was at a sign up booth for a 5K I was organizing in college. Then came marriage...and 10 pounds, constant sweets, and fast food. We quickly kissed running goodbye. Can I get an amen from all the newlywed ladies out there?
Now I have never been one to obsess over weight or really freak out about my figure. I am a healthy girl that will always be a size 6-8 with my healthy curves and shorter build, and I am okay with that! So this is not about getting that "bikini body" or anything like that. However, things have gotten to a point in our lifestyle since marriage that Ben and I are unhappy with when it comes to our health. Working out and taking care of our bodies has gotten lost in the busy life we live right now, and we want to see that change. We truly believe it is pleasing to the Lord for us to care for our bodies well. We also believe there are spiritual lessons to be learned from discipline and restraint.
We see in scripture that exercise is a way for us to train ourselves in the practice of discipline and it something that we are called to as we care for our temples of the Lord.
1 Corinthians 9:25 says, "Every athlete exercises discipline in all things, they do so to earn an perishable crown, but we an imperishable." and Proverbs 31:17 says, "She dresses herself with strength, she makes her arms strong."
The Proverbs 31 woman is an example of strength, and that strength is described as making her arms strong. I love that, it is so easy to dismiss exercise and healthy eating as extreme or a time sucker, but it really is a discipline that is please to the Lord!
As of today Ben and I are beginning to eat whole foods, exercise, and start the Advocare 24 Day Challenge! I have been doing some serious meal planning, and have cleaned our fridge and pantry of all sweets, processed foods, and junk! So follow along with this journey to health on Instagram with #coxesgohealthy where I will be sharing progress, meals, and all the bumps along the way! Prayers appreciated for these two sweet loving, fried food and caffeine addicts!
