No sweeter name, than the name of Jesus.
The words to this song just rang so clearly to me in my guest bedroom/office as I am working this morning.Oh what truth this one sentence offers us to cling to....it goes on to say, "You are the life to my heart and my soul, you are the light to the darkness around me, you are the hope to the hopeless and broken, you are the only truth and the way..." How true this is. Without Jesus, we would be dead, in darkness, hopeless, and without truth or a path to walk on...what a miserable life. This is such encouragement to me when I begin to feel sorry for myself, or frustrated by my circumstances. The name of Jesus, all we have to do is reflect on that precious name, and lay hold of the gospel. Not a watered down, prosperity, gimme gimme whatever I want gospel, but the true gospel.
The gospel that preaches we all fall short, and can do nothing but sin and run away from Christ. We do not want him nor are we able to even begin to remove the stain of all our wickedness by ourselves... (Romans 3:11-12, Jeremiah 2:22).
The gospel that preaches that while we did nothing in ourselves to deserve grace, the Lord sent his son to cover our sins and stand in our place. He took on our debt and wrongs and made them his own. He did not stop there though!!! He not only paid our debt and called it his own, but he made us clean...white...righteous...his CHILD! (Romans 5:6-11, Ephesians 2:8-10, Titus 3:5-6, Romans 11:6, Colossians 2:13)
We are made righteous in the eyes of the Lord through the death of Jesus on the cross, and we are given the Holy Spirit upon salvation to help teach us, guide us, and convict us. (Ephesians 1:13-14).
This should bring us to our knees, we should be weeping before the Lord as we reflect on the reality of the hope we now have...that had absolutely nothing to do with us. It is only because of that sweet name, Jesus, that we can be filled with hope. May we not forget this...
In light of the gospel, daily troubles seem so trivial. Financial problems? The Lord is bigger. Issues in marriage? The Lord is bigger. Stress? He is bigger. Anger? He is bigger.
He has saved us from all these things...his gospel gives us the hope in every situation. This gospel gives us the ability to extend grace in every situation, whether that grace is deserved or not...The cross and what was done for us there should always be at the forefront of our minds, because without it, we are nothing.
Praying this convicts you like it convicted me this morning, and that it will motivate you to preach the gospel to yourself daily whether you have been a believer for 20 years or 20 days...reflect on the work of Christ, and find peace there friends.
So on a lighter note, yesterday was Ben's birthday...he turned 24! whoop whoop! :) And it was a great day. We started it off right with the best donuts from Shipley's (Ben's favorite guilty pleasure). He opened his presents, which were all little things, but I had put a lot of time into each one. His big gift was a new pair of Chaco's, he was really excited about these. He also got a couple new t-shirts. We are both working on graduating out of our fraternity and sorority t shirts into shirts a little more grown up :) its a process...
He also had a few handmade gifts from me. I made him a "Date Night Jar" inspired by a pin on pinterest...and most all the dates in the jar require no money or less than 10$, so I think that will be fun to use this next year. (I'm planning to do a DIY post in a few days about the jar so be looking for that and the list of date ideas). I made a "Dinner Date Passport" also, it is a tiny book with all the restaurants in Starkville on each page and a place to put a sticker once we eat there. So no more arguing over who picks where we eat, and we have to get out of the box and try new places! Trying to eat at every restaurant once before Ben's birthday next year! :) I also made some little instagram albums of all our instagram pictures using a new company called Prinstagram. Check them out, I was very happy with the mini books I ordered!
We went to dinner, had cake and enjoyed Ben's day off work by wandering around Lowe's for over an hour planning out our dream house, and just enjoying downtime together. It was a great day! :)
What are your favorite birthday traditions?
Happy Hump Day folks! Don't get to busy to enjoy life to the fullest...by playing, trying new things or just stopping to notice the little things.
or by training with your hubby to be an Olympian...
