Date Nights + Paper Beads

Happy Monday! So I am currently at the beach with my fam jam (third beach trip this Summer, what what!). So I am not as plugged in as normal, but still wanted to have posts for you all you sweet friends this week while I am away. Here is my latest go-to outfit...but it is "date night" edition. I don't know about you, but in our small town, there are very few places that call for really dressing up...well I am honestly not sure that there are any to be honest. Even the most expensive restaurants allow you to come in and eat wearing a t shirt and jeans if you wanted to...so I normally go with a very cute and casual look for date nights!

As I have said before, I love pink, and I love this top. It is bright, and classy, and it the perfect weight for a summer top! And the turquoise necklace is made entirely out of PAPER BEADS! Isn't that just the coolest? I love this statement necklace, and I love this color combo! Oh, and it is your lucky day because it is currently on sale! Whoo!

And of course, we had to get Piper in on a little modeling action. She is a natural don't you think? :) It was actually really funny because while Ben was taking the pictures, he used a clip to hook her leash to his shorts...it was funny!

So what do you wear on your special date nights?

Stay at Home Date Nights

I am so excited today to have the opportunity to be guest posting over at The Ashcraft Bunch blog today! I am happily sponsoring Kenzie this month and hanging out on her sidebar in my spare time! :) As most of you know, I am a newlywed to a hard working civil engineer who is still in school studying to get his PhD. So money is often not just overflowing in our lives. Ben and I often have to be very creative with date nights.

So we have come up with lots of ideas for "Stay at Home Date Nights". Hop over to Kenzie's blog and check out some really fun stay at home date nights!

For more date night ideas check out my other posts here, and here!

What are your favorite things to do for stay at home date nights?

Thank you Kenzie for letting me share these ideas and post on your blog today! It was joy and I have loved being just a little part of your blog space these past few weeks!

xoxo,

Go To Date Nights

Date nights are so important whether you are married, engaged, or getting to know someone. Ben and I love still dating each other even though we have been married for 9 months now. We use the words "date night" very loosely and look at any small window of time together as a "date night". It is really easy to slip into not planning special time together or just doing the same thing over and over.

So for those of you who want to go on more fun and creative dates with your man but cannot afford to do a fancy dinner and $20 movie every weekend, this post is for you. Here is a list of some of our "go to" date nights. The best part is that most of them are cheap, or free.

  1. Go on a walk + stop at a coffee shop. - we will do this often since our favorite coffee shop is right down the street from our home. We will split a latte and sit and chat. It is so fun...and is less than $5.
  2. Bake together - we LOVE sweets. So this is a fun way to spend time together doing something we both love and most times I always have what we need to throw together some sweet treat (looking for a fun date night recipe? try these Chocolate Chip Cookie Dough Balls
  3. TV show marathon. - any Office fans out there? watching several episodes of The Office is sure to bring lots of laughs, and cuddling...perfect way to spend a weekend night right?
  4. Music night. - Ben and I love music, I can sing, and he play the guitar, banjo and piano...so having jam sessions are always so much fun. Sometimes we will even walk to Mississippi State's Chapel of Memories (where Ben proposed) and Ben will play the piano there. Those are always fun nights.
  5. Game night. - you can never go wrong here.
  6. Spontaneous trip. Go crazy, 2 am trip to Waffle House, or New Orleans, or the beach...be spontaneous.
  7. Dollar Tree Date. - You each have $5 to pick out a gift for the other in whatever category you pick...tackiest, most useful, cheapest, most thoughtful...be creative with it.
  8. Sunrise + Breakfast. I am a breakfast date fanatic, so this is personal favorite. And you don't have to spend a ton on breakfast, go grab a bagel or donuts, or make it yourself!
  9. Cook some type of new food together. - sushi, Asian, Thai, Indian?
  10. Wander a bookstore, mall, Walmart, or all the above. - This is almost a weekly tradition. We live in a small town so we always go to Walmart, we look at camping stuff, home goods, even food sometimes...we just have no agenda and it is always such a fun thing.
So here are 10 of our favorite "go to" date nights and most are either free or under $20...they are great options when you are tight on money (any newlyweds out there wanna amen me on that?) Check out more of our date night ideas here! What are your favorite date nights? Would love to hear from you!

XOXO,

Rachel

Projects and such.

Hello Friends. So it is Monday.....dun, dun, dun...it is always so hard to get back into the swing of a full week after a long weekend like Labor Day gives you a four day week...so so tough. But alas, the show must go on correct? Well anyways, this past weekend was quite a wonderful one in the Cox Residence. I think this past weekend may be one of my favorites with Ben since we have been married...it was just packed full of fun and laughter (sounds cheesy doesn't it?...but seriously..it was awesome).

First things first....remember those picture frames my amazing hubs was working so hard on for me all last weekend? Well......HOORAY! they are completed. Be amazed by the picture below, also the grand total for all the frames combined was about 30$. We had the wood, stain, paint, and polyurethane already...so we just had to get screws, glass, and the pictures and hello gorgeous frames, welcome to our humble abode. I am kinda in love with them, and so happy to share them with you!

Our house is slowly becoming more and more like home to us each project we tackle. Speaking of projects, my husband is all about improving our rental apartment that we will only be in for two or three years...he LOVES to work with his hands and create things to make life easier, and more efficient, it is the engineer in him. So this weekend we wanted to give our dirty cars a bath and wash them, BUT....we don't have a water faucet to attach our hose to at our apartment...any normal person would just go and pay 5$ at a car wash place...but not Ben Cox. So before I knew it we found ourselves at Lowes loading up on PVC pipe, glue, and a faucet piece...fast forward about 2 hours, after Ben spent that time crawling in and out from under our porch, we now have a water faucet to wash our cars with. And you better believe we washed them. It only cost us about 20$ to do, so give us a couple more washes and we will be saving ourselves money. Thanks Benjamin! (Pic taken after his first venture under the house--what a stud I am married to)

So other eventful things for this weekend-- remember our Date Jar I made Ben for his Birthday? Well we have knocked out several of our date nights these past couple weeks. We have had a game night, movie night, gone to the pet store, washed cars together, and watched the sunrise and had breakfast at a local favorite. I love going on dates with Ben. This week our date will be extra special, you know why? CAUSE IT IS MY BIRTHDAY WEEK! Yep, I turn the big 23 on Sunday. So my birthday date will be our date night for this week. Here are a couple pics of our sunrise/breakfast date this past weekend.

We live in a college town, and not just any college town, but the town that houses in our opinion the best college in the SEC, Mississippi State University...okay okay I know we are a little biased, and yes our football team may not be national championship quality, but we bulldogs stand by our team. So this weekend was the first game weekend in Starkville and you better believe we faced the heat (for one and a half quarters) to watch our dawgs play! I was dying in the heat and became rather grumpy rather quickly so the game watching was short lived, but it was a fun day none the less, started off with a big breakfast at home, and a day tailgating with friends decked out in our maroon.

A couple other fun highlights from the week/weekend...I am totally ready for fall. And while it may still be hitting 100 degrees here in Mississippi I have made pumpkin spice cookies, filled our candy bowl with candy corn (which are almost gone thanks to my sweets loving hubby), and decorating the house for Fall...eager beaver right here. We enjoyed a leisure walk together downtown (my favorite) the other night...it was so sweet to have the time to talk deeply together about the Lord, and what he is teaching us. I cherish those times with my husband, he is such a great leader for me spiritually, always pushing me to examine myself before the Lord and evaluate what areas of my life need growth.

So that is about it for this weekend. It was a fantastic weekend full of some really awesome memories made. Oh I almost forgot, I am having a trunk show at my house in just a few weeks for one of the most incredible companies...Noonday. Noonday is a jewelry and accessories line that allows women in third world countries to make products that are sold here in the US and they receive some of the profit in order to create a sustainable lifestyle for themselves and their families. So even if you do not live in Starkville, MS you can purchase some of this amazing jewelry through my trunk show. Just go on Facebook here and you can get all the details about the trunk show and how to purchase your own Noonday pieces. Check it out, I promise you will not regret it!

Take care dear ones!

DIY Date Night Jar (52 almost FREE ideas)

So Ben's birthday was last week, he turned 24! It was a great day full of celebrating him, and because we are newlyweds and not just rolling in mounds of cash I made several of his birthday presents myself. :) This is an idea I saw on Pinterest, so I am not claiming it as my idea by any means...but I did want to share the idea with you, along with the "Date Nights" I chose to include. This is so easy to do and so much fun to have all these fun dates to try and plan for throughout the year.

***So thankful for all the Pinterest love. Hope you love these ideas, please be creative and think of dates that fit you and your special someone. Please look around my blog and enjoy yourself. I love to get feedback from my readers, drop me a line anytime!***

So I just got a mason jar and spray painted it a metal gray color...you can do whatever you want to here...mason jar, tin can, glass jar of any kind would work.

I used Popsicle sticks to write the dates on, again, this is up to you on what you want to do. It just seemed to work well for me to use these.

Then you just stick the sticks inside the jar and you have a customized date night jar for you are your main squeeze. HOW FUN?! I know...
