weekend

Weekending.

Our weekends have taken on a new look since I have begun working on Saturdays. This has been quite the adjustment, and I am not going to lie, it has been pretty tough at times. But one thing Ben and I are trying really hard to do is to be intentional with the little time we have together on the weekends. This past weekend was awesome, yes I had to work from 6am-3pm...but we had the best time together Saturday and Sunday. Here are some snapshots from our weekend!

ONE. coffee straight from a french press with Ben. Mornings are my favorite, and that has been a big adjustment to leaving before Ben most mornings. So times that we can enjoy slow cups of coffee while cuddling under a blanket are cherished much more these days.

TWO. date nights in Columbus. Hobby Lobby just had its grand opening in Columbus, which is about 30 miles away, so we drove over and wandered through the store for an hour. We brainstormed projects and crafts, and future home decor...it was so much fun. We also spent some time in a book store, and I just swooned over these cookbooks. The recipes inside were gorgeous, and so simple with great ingredients. Pretty sure I have decided to start collecting cookbooks.

THREE. starbucks. We just recently got a Starbucks in Starkville, so it is still brand new, and makes Ben and I feel like we are out of town when we step inside to get a treat. It was the perfect way to kick off our date night.

FOUR. fresh street bread. I love baking homemade bread, and I get giddy every single time I remove the dutch oven lid to such a beautiful sight. Bread is pretty magical don't you think?

FIVE. notes from a blue bike. This is the book that my Influence Network small group is reading, and I am loving it. It has had me rethinking how fast we live, and what we put in our bodies. Living with more intention, and trying to rid ourselves of the American fast-paced culture is going to be hard, but sweet I believe.

SIX. piper. Doesn't she look like a little angel? Weekends with a pup are the best, and this little girl is just the cutest.

How was your weekend?

The Best Weekend Ever!

Do you ever have one of those weekend's that your heart is just so full when it comes to Sunday evening? Well that was this weekend. It was so great. Ben and I drove to Hernando, MS (where Ben's family lives) and he stayed there Friday night while I went on to Memphis, TN for my sweet friend's bachelorette party!

We had a blast! We enjoyed a great dinner on a riverboat cruise rolling down the Mississippi River. It was such a joy to celebrate sweet Lesley, and her upcoming marriage!

Cannot wait for June to celebrate this lady becoming a wife! Saturday I woke up and drove to meet one of my blog friends for coffee! (this is on my 101 in 1001 list). I was so excited to finally meet Lauren of Sincerely, Lo face to face and enjoyed sharing each our hearts about marriage, baby fever, and ministry! Cannot wait to see you again soon!
(small and blurry iPhone pic, please excuse the quality)

The weekend kept getting better. After this I drove back to my in laws house and celebrated my youngest brother in laws birthday! We went bowling, out for pizza and had the best ice cream cake ever! I am so thankful to be married into such an incredible family!

Also, fun fact. I have the same name as my sister in law pictured above...Rachel Cox, and Rachel Cox. :) Name twins for life...or until Rachel number 2 gets married! haha

With it being Mother's Day also, we had a great weekend with Ben's family. I am so thankful for my mom who has always loved me so unconditionally and now for a mother in law who loves me like one of her own!

Overall, best weekend ever! How was your weekend?

Columbus Air Show

This weekend was so much fun. Aren't weekends such a blessing from the Lord? 2 days of rest, and freedom from work with your loved ones. I love our weekends when we have no traveling going on. We just get to be locals in our community and it really is such a joy.

This Saturday we were outside all day, and it was glorious! We went on campus for a Mississippi State sorority/fraternity event called Derby Days. All the sororities are given a theme and create a lipsync dance routine along the lines of their theme. This is all a big fundraiser but so much fun to watch. This year all the girls were given different Disney movie themes...Aladdin, Peter Pan, Jungle Book...they were adorable.

After this we went to Columbus, MS, which is about 30 minutes down the road, to the Columbus Air Force Base for their Air Show. It was my first time ever going to an air show and it was INCREDIBLE! We met up with some families from our church and enjoyed such a fun filled day in the sun seeing some incredible pilots fly their planes.

We were able to see planes that actually flew in the World Wars. Some planes are one of only 6 or 7 of their kind still in flying condition. It was mind blowing. Ben was just in heaven. He has fond memories of going to air shows with his family when he was younger, and has a deep desire to get his pilot's license one day. Needless to say he was right in his element.

We were also so privileged to get to see the Thunderbirds fly while we were out at the base. They were so incredibly talented. It was just a show stopping performance that left our ears ringing for quite sometime.

Overall, we had a wonderful weekend. It is so much fun to just get out in your community and enjoy local events. Whether that is an arts festival, tour of homes, or something like an Air Show, local events are always so much fun and a great way to support your city.

What did you do this weekend?

Much Love,

Rachel

Projects and such.

Hello Friends. So it is Monday.....dun, dun, dun...it is always so hard to get back into the swing of a full week after a long weekend like Labor Day gives you a four day week...so so tough. But alas, the show must go on correct? Well anyways, this past weekend was quite a wonderful one in the Cox Residence. I think this past weekend may be one of my favorites with Ben since we have been married...it was just packed full of fun and laughter (sounds cheesy doesn't it?...but seriously..it was awesome).

First things first....remember those picture frames my amazing hubs was working so hard on for me all last weekend? Well......HOORAY! they are completed. Be amazed by the picture below, also the grand total for all the frames combined was about 30$. We had the wood, stain, paint, and polyurethane already...so we just had to get screws, glass, and the pictures and hello gorgeous frames, welcome to our humble abode. I am kinda in love with them, and so happy to share them with you!

Our house is slowly becoming more and more like home to us each project we tackle. Speaking of projects, my husband is all about improving our rental apartment that we will only be in for two or three years...he LOVES to work with his hands and create things to make life easier, and more efficient, it is the engineer in him. So this weekend we wanted to give our dirty cars a bath and wash them, BUT....we don't have a water faucet to attach our hose to at our apartment...any normal person would just go and pay 5$ at a car wash place...but not Ben Cox. So before I knew it we found ourselves at Lowes loading up on PVC pipe, glue, and a faucet piece...fast forward about 2 hours, after Ben spent that time crawling in and out from under our porch, we now have a water faucet to wash our cars with. And you better believe we washed them. It only cost us about 20$ to do, so give us a couple more washes and we will be saving ourselves money. Thanks Benjamin! (Pic taken after his first venture under the house--what a stud I am married to)

So other eventful things for this weekend-- remember our Date Jar I made Ben for his Birthday? Well we have knocked out several of our date nights these past couple weeks. We have had a game night, movie night, gone to the pet store, washed cars together, and watched the sunrise and had breakfast at a local favorite. I love going on dates with Ben. This week our date will be extra special, you know why? CAUSE IT IS MY BIRTHDAY WEEK! Yep, I turn the big 23 on Sunday. So my birthday date will be our date night for this week. Here are a couple pics of our sunrise/breakfast date this past weekend.

We live in a college town, and not just any college town, but the town that houses in our opinion the best college in the SEC, Mississippi State University...okay okay I know we are a little biased, and yes our football team may not be national championship quality, but we bulldogs stand by our team. So this weekend was the first game weekend in Starkville and you better believe we faced the heat (for one and a half quarters) to watch our dawgs play! I was dying in the heat and became rather grumpy rather quickly so the game watching was short lived, but it was a fun day none the less, started off with a big breakfast at home, and a day tailgating with friends decked out in our maroon.

A couple other fun highlights from the week/weekend...I am totally ready for fall. And while it may still be hitting 100 degrees here in Mississippi I have made pumpkin spice cookies, filled our candy bowl with candy corn (which are almost gone thanks to my sweets loving hubby), and decorating the house for Fall...eager beaver right here. We enjoyed a leisure walk together downtown (my favorite) the other night...it was so sweet to have the time to talk deeply together about the Lord, and what he is teaching us. I cherish those times with my husband, he is such a great leader for me spiritually, always pushing me to examine myself before the Lord and evaluate what areas of my life need growth.

So that is about it for this weekend. It was a fantastic weekend full of some really awesome memories made. Oh I almost forgot, I am having a trunk show at my house in just a few weeks for one of the most incredible companies...Noonday. Noonday is a jewelry and accessories line that allows women in third world countries to make products that are sold here in the US and they receive some of the profit in order to create a sustainable lifestyle for themselves and their families. So even if you do not live in Starkville, MS you can purchase some of this amazing jewelry through my trunk show. Just go on Facebook here and you can get all the details about the trunk show and how to purchase your own Noonday pieces. Check it out, I promise you will not regret it!

Take care dear ones!
